Louis Rees-Zammit has signed for the Kanas City Chiefs

Louis Rees-Zammit has spoken of his delight at securing a contract with back-to-back Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs.

The former Wales wing, who quit rugby union on the eve of the Six Nations, was part of the 2024 international player pathway and has now signed a contract with NFL giants the Kansas City Chiefs. His next job will be to secure a regular-season roster spot with the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs posted pictures on X of a visibly happy Rees-Zammit signing his contract surrounded by his parents Joe and Maxine along with his brother Taylor. In a video posted on X Rees-Zammit said: “Hi Chiefs kingdom, Louis Rees-Zammit here.

“Just signed and can’t wait to go. See you all at Arrowhead.”

The former Gloucester winger has reportedly penned a three-year contract and it appears as if he’ll be operating as a running back.

Rees-Zammit was one of 16 players to take part in the IPP this year, which is a 10-week crash course with the intention of teaching the skills required to play in the NFL. The 32-cap Wales international clearly impressed scouts at the University of South Florida Pro Day in early March with his electric pace standing out.

Rees-Zammit will be competing with the off-season squad in order to earn a place in the final 53-man roster for the 2024 season which begins in September.

All 32 sides in the NFL will be given one additional place in their practice squads which gives players in the IPP a chance to progress. If a team has an IPP player in their practice squad can promote the player to the final active 53-man squad without taking up a space, up to three times a season.
