Goff, who is entering the final year of his current deal will make $21.7 million next season considering he isn’t extended.  However, both sides have been in talks and expect a deal to be done in the future.  According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, there’s a real possibility Detroit pays him as a top quarterback.

“I really think there’s a real possibility that we’re going to see Jared Goff get somewhere along the lines of forty to forty-five million dollars.  I mean, Jared Goff played outstanding football last year and really two years ago for the Lions.  Proving that he was a lot more than people including myself thought he would be.”

If Goff and the Lions can’t come to an agreement on an extension this season, the Lions will take an extra $10 million dollar cap hit.  While extending his contract could save some cap space to improve the rest of their roster this upcoming season, General Manager Brad Holmes told reporters that Goff’s contract isn’t a priority when it comes to their current decision making.
